Trips and activities
A trip holds its activities: the dinner, the boat, the two taxis. Each activity knows who was there and who paid, so the friend who skipped the museum is not charged for it.
xplit keeps a running tab for your trip: who paid, who took part, and who owes whom at the end. Add a cost in a few seconds. Settle up in as few payments as the maths allows.
Free. Works in any browser. No account needed to start.
| Who | Paid | Balance |

Most group trips end with someone staring at a notes app, trying to remember who paid for the second taxi. xplit is the notes app that does the arithmetic.
A trip holds its activities: the dinner, the boat, the two taxis. Each activity knows who was there and who paid, so the friend who skipped the museum is not charged for it.
One person pays, or three do. Shares are equal unless you say otherwise, and a fixed amount covers the one who only had a coffee. A refund is simply a negative amount.
Balances update as you type. At the end, xplit lists the fewest transfers that settle everyone, person by person or by group, and you pay each other back however you like.
Names are enough. Add yourself with one press. Friends you add once are there for the next trip.
Amount, what it was for, who paid. Not sure which activity a receipt belongs to? Add just the amount and sort it out later.
Open Who owes whom. It shows the handful of transfers that make everyone even. Pay each other back and you are done.
Your data lives in the browser and syncs when you are back online. A basement restaurant with no signal is not a problem.
Invite the group with one link. Choose whether it lets people look or edit, and change your mind later without starting over.
A couple paying from one card, two business partners, parents and kids: put them in a group and they settle as one.
Freeform edit turns a list into a text box. Paste rows from Excel or Numbers, one per line, and they become transactions.
Save a trip as a self-contained web page or as plain text. It prints well and needs nothing from us to open.
Two buttons take back and redo any change. Light, dark, or follow the device, and a theme editor if none of ours suits you.
It does not move money. It does not show ads, and it never asks for a card. It tells you who owes whom, down to the cent, and leaves the paying back to you and your friends, the way you already do it.
Yes. You can open the app and start a trip right away, and there is no paid tier hiding behind the first few expenses.
Not to start. Without an account, everything you enter stays in your browser. Sign in with Google or Apple when you want the same trips on another device, or when you want to share a trip with the people on it. Whatever you entered before signing in becomes part of your account.
It first works out each person's balance: what they paid minus their share of everything they took part in. Then it matches the people who are owed the most with the people who owe the most, so the whole group is square in as few transfers as possible. There is a longer explanation on the blog, with an example.
No. It tells you who owes whom and how much, and you settle up however you like: cash, a bank transfer, a payment app. xplit never touches a payment and never asks for card details.
How xplit turns a trip's expenses into balances, and why matching the biggest creditor with the biggest debtor settles everyone in a handful of transfers.
A practical way to split costs on a group trip: what to write down, how to handle unequal shares, and how to settle up without a dozen small transfers.
Open xplit, make a trip, add the first cost. It takes about a minute, and you can sign in later if you want it on your phone as well.
